Box Score

Minnesota Morris 7, Yellowjackets 1

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team was looking for a bounce-back effort on Sunday following a loss Saturday night at the hands of St. Catherine University. The effort was there, but Minnesota Morris had all the answers and the Cougars came away with the victory, 7-1 over the Yellowjackets.

Emma LaChance led the way offensively for the Cougars, scoring twice and adding an assist in the match. LaChance opened the scoring at 5:05 of the first half to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead. It went to 2-0 in the 13th minute when a cross box kick deflected in off a Yellowjacket. Kebra Rogers struck a ball into the right corner of the goal in the 29th minute to stretch the Minnesota Morris lead. Carly Denler scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute, finishing off a scoring play started by LaChance and it was 4-0 heading into the break.

The Yellowjackets ended the shutout bid early in the second half when sophomore Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) was awarded a free kick and she made no mistake, burying her first goal of the season to pull the Yellowjackets to within 4-1 in the 52nd minute.

Minnesota Morris got the goal back less than minute later, however, when LaChance scored her second of the match, picking up a rebound off of a shot that hit the post. Rachael Berns second goal of the season in the 66th minute made it 6-1, and Meaghan Delaney closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute, picking up the goal on a long shot from outside the box to make the final score 7-1.

The Cougars outshot the Yellowjackets 14-1 in the match. Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and finished the game with seven saves. Cougar goalkeeper Torri Jordan got the win, making no saves in the match.

The Yellowjackets (2-5-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) will be on the road again, as they travel to Bethany Lutheran University in Mankato, Minn. on Tuesday, September 17. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
