Ripon defeats Yellowjackets

Taylor Piechocki
Box Score

Ripon 4, Yellowjackets 1

Sunday afternoon the weather in Ripon, Wis. was perfect, a stark contrast to what the Yellowjackets saw on Saturday at UW-Oshkosh. Unfortunately, the result didn't do a 180-degree change like the weather did. The Yellowjackets had their opportunities but weren't able to cash in on all of them as they fell at Ripon to the Red Hawks by a 4-1 margin.

The match on Sunday also marked the return to the goal for Yellowjacket junior Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara). Paige had missed time due to an injury sustained on September 14 at St. Catherine. She returned to the lineup to play on Saturday at Oshkosh and made her first start in goal since the injury on Sunday.

Ripon opened the scoring early as Kaylee Tadych scored in the seventh minute to give them a 1-0 lead. It went to 2-0 at 30:47 when Brandi Peltier scored her first goal of the match unassisted, beating Paige one-on-one for the tally.

The Yellowjackets sawed the lead in half in the opening minutes of the second frame. Trailing by a pair, Taylor Piechocki (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc ) scored in the 47th minute to make it a 2-1 game. For Piechocki, the goal was the first of her collegiate career, coming in her 28th game.

Shortly after the Yellowjackets got on the board, however, the Red Hawks got the goal back. Peltier scored her second goal of the match in the 57th minute to make it a 3-1 game. Then with under ten minutes to play, Kyla Roberts scored to make the final score 4-1.

In addition to her goal, Piechocki had another shot on goal. Her two shots on goal tied her with Nichole Casler (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) for the team lead in that department. Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and Megan Nelson (Wrenshall, Minn./Carlton) had the other shots on goal. The Yellowjackets were out-attempted 22-7 in the match, and Ripon also held the edge in shots on goal for the afternoon, 17-6.

Paige finished the match with 13 saves, while Sidney Blodgett made five saves for Ripon.

The Yellowjackets (3-8-0, 0-2-0 WIAC) return home on Tuesday, October 1 when they will host Northland College at the Superior Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
