Shanley Peters earned her third straight shutout on Friday against UW-Eau Claire.
Box Score

Yellowjackets 5, Eau Claire 0

As the Yellowjacket women's hockey team heads for the stretch run of the 2013-14 season, they find themselves on quite a little run.

Friday night at Wessman Arena they won for the sixth consecutive game, shutting out UW-Eau Claire by a 5-0 score. The victory is also part of a larger unbeaten streak that has now reached ten straight games. The Yellowjackets are now 8-0-2 since losing to UW-River Falls on December 6.

Goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) is also in the midst of a nice little run, as she posted her third shutout in a row on Friday night, finishing the game with 18 saves. She has now gone 210:38 without allowing a goal.

The Yellowjackets got the eventual game-winning goal at 14:10 of the first period, when Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) converted on the power play to make it 1-0. Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) and Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) assisted on Olmstead's 10th goal of the year.

A few minutes later the power play connected again. With just four seconds left in the period Olmstead and Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) set up Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) for her sixth of the year and the Yellowjackets were up 2-0 after one period.

Mayhew connected for her fifth goal of the season at 5:48 of the second period to push the Yellowjacket lead to 3-0. Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) assisted. Then at 13:03 of the second it went to 4-0 when Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) picked up a shorthanded marker for the Yellowjackets for her tenth goal (and first shorthanded goal) of the season. Pamela McLeod (Gillam, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall Prep) had the lone assist as the Yellowjackets went into the second intermission with a comfortable lead.

The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring at 15:57 of the third period on the second goal of the season for Mara Teschendorf (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North). The goal broke an 11-game goal drought for Teschendorf dating back to the first game of the season. Larson and Amanda Coey (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains) assisted on the goal that closed out the scoring.

Olmstead, Larson, and Mayhew each had multi-point games to pace the Yellowjackets offensively.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Blugolds 46-18 in the game. Paige Turner made 41 saves in the losing effort for UW-Eau Claire.

On the power play the Yellowjackets finished the game 2-for-6, while the Blugolds were 0-for-7. The Yellowjackets took eight penalties for 16 minutes while the Blugolds took six for 12 minutes.

The Yellowjackets (13-2-4, 3-2-2 WIAC) and Blugolds will play the second game of their weekend series on Saturday afternoon at the Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire. The opening face-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
