Solis' hat-trick leads UW-Superior to victory over Lumberjacks

The UW-Superior men's soccer team was about as statistically dominant as possible in their non-conference contest against Northland College Tuesday afternoon.

Even as the Yellowjackets continued to pile up shots, a strong defensive effort by the Lumberjacks managed to keep UW-Superior off the board for nearly 60 minutes.

Freshman Reyman Solis (Kirkland, Ill./Huntley) took over from there however. And the end result proved to be a good one for the Yellowjackets as Solis' three second-half tallies propelled UW-Superior to a 3-0 victory in Ashland.

The Yellowjackets (9-5) seized control in the early going, creating scoring opportunities early and often on the way to outshooting Northland 17-0 in the opening half.

Northland (3-10) managed to keep the game scoreless through halftime behind a strong effort from net minder Colton Schreyer, who made nine saves in the first 45 minutes of play.

UW-Superior finally broke through at 59:4 as Solis took a feed from Gio Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos) and netted his second tally of the season to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets would double their edge at 79:41 when Solis scored his second of the afternoon for a 2-0 bulge before his third tally of the contest, just 3:06 later, provided the final margin in UW-Superior's 3-0 shutout victory.

For the game, UW-Superior held a commanding 37-1 edge in shots, including a 22-1 margin in the second half. The Yellowjackets also finished with a 25-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Solis and Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) each racked up seven shots for the Yellowjackets while senior Brian Grand (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) finished with six shots.

Zach Harwerth (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) posted his third shutout of the season in goal, making one save on the afternoon.

Schreyer took the loss for Northland, making 22 stops for the contest.

The Yellowjackets return home to face UW-Whitewater on Saturday. Opening kick from Yellowjacket Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
