Warhawks shutout Yellowjackets

Whitewater 8, Superior 0

The UW-Superior women's soccer team knew they were facing a stiff challenge when the UW-Whitewater Warhawks faced off against the Yellowjackets at Yellowjacket Field Saturday afternoon. After all, the Warhawks entered the contest on a 12-game winning streak and undefeated in WIAC Conference action during the 2014 campaign.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, UW-Whitewater extended their winning streak to 13, scoring five times in the first half on the way to posting an impressive 8-0 victory.

The loss dropped UW-Superior to 3-11-2 overall and 0-6 in WIAC action on the season while the Warhawks improved to 15-2 and 8-0 with the victory.

UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 18 in the latest D3soccer.com top-25 poll, took the lead just 5:36 into the contest when Carly Pottle scored for a quick 1-0 Warhawks advantage.

The Warhawks doubled their lead at 11:45 when Jordan Jackson tallied from Brianna Reid for a 2-0 UW-Whitewater cushion.

Reid went on to add goals at 18:47 and 24:08 to make it a 4-0 game before Alexandrea Swartout's marker at 40:37 gave the Warhawks a 5-0 edge heading into the intermission.

UW-Whitewater added three more tallies in the second half as Reid, Pottle and Marie Lesperance scored at 46:18, 47:10 and 51:23 respectively in making the final 8-0.

For the game, UW-Whitewater held a 28-4 edge in shots, including 17-4 in shots on goal.

Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) paced the Yellowjackets with two shots while Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) took the loss with nine saves in goal.

Pottle notched a game-high six shots for UW-Whitewater as Alison Halweg and Jordan Myers combined for four saves to post the shutout in net.

The Yellowjackets hit the road to UW-River Falls on Wednesday. Opening kick against the Falcons is scheduled for 7 p.m.
