Box Score

River Falls 4, Yellowjackets 0

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team, having been eliminated from contention for a berth in the WIAC post-season, was, with two matches left, looking to close out the 2014 campaign on a good note and build some positive momentum heading into next season, the program's first in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The first obstacle in the way of that momentum building was a road match at UW-River Falls.

And in the end, the Falcons weren't going to allow any Yellowjacket momentum Wednesday at Ramer Field.

The Falcons scored twice early in the match and never looked back, handing the Yellowjackets a 4-0 defeat in front of 65 fans on a cool night in River Falls.

Nina Abrahamson opened the scoring for the Falcons, connecting on her fourth goal of the season just 8:50 into the match to make it 1-0. Alex Swatloski and Missy Barnett assisted on Abrahamson's fourth tally of the season. The lead went to 2-0 just over a minute later when Swatloski scored her 11th goal of the season on an assist from Abby Soderholm at the ten-minute mark of the first half. Before the break the Falcons stretched the lead to 3-0, and once again it was Swatloski, scoring her second of the match and 12th of the season in the 31st minute. Kayla Windingstad and Kenzie Weisman assisted on the goal.

The Falcons closed out the scoring in the early stages of the second half. Just 3:52 in Swatloski completed the hat trick, getting an assist from Kasey King to make the final score 4-0 River Falls.

Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets. The freshman had 26 shots come her way, eight of which ended up on goal. She finished the match with four saves. At the other end Erica Cimochowski, Emily Hancock, and Talley Halvorson combined to post the shutout in goal for the Falcons.

The Yellowjackets (3-12-2, 0-7-0 WIAC) will close out the 2014 season Saturday, November 1 when they travel to UW-La Crosse for a match with the Eagles. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
