After a 4-2 victory at Augsburg College on Friday night, the Yellowjackets were looking to take the momentum they gained and run with it. Momentum is vital in a conference like the WIAC. With the margin of error being small, gaining momentum and running with it throughout the course of the schedule is key when a school is left without an automatic qualifier. The Yellowjackets put that momentum into gear on Saturday afternoon with an 8-2 rout over Augsburg College.

The Yellowjackets didn't look back an ounce after their first goal as they lead for the remainder of the contest. Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) was the first Yellowjacket to strike when she put home an unassisted goal at 11:57 of the first period to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. That lead was soon 2-0 when Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) took a pass from Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) and fired a shot to the back of the net at 13:30 of the first period.

After Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) gave the Yellowjackets a 3-0 lead at 3:45 of the second period, the Auggies had the Yellowjackets on their toes for a brief stretch. Kayla Fuechtmann gave the Yellowjackets everything they could handle midway in the second period with back-to-back goals to narrow the Yellowjacket lead to 3-2. The goals came at 4:40 and 11:21 of the second period.

From that point it was all Yellowjackets, coming up with five unanswered goals. Adair added her second goal of the game at 14:16 of the second period to make the score 4-2. It was quickly 5-2 when Kelly Cockerill (Selkirk, Manitoba/Oak Park) notched her first goal of the season at 14:49 of the second period. Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) closed out the scoring for the second period with a power play goal at 18:13 to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 6-2.

The Yellowjackets added a pair of goals in the third period to make the score 8-2. Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover) and Amanda Coey (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains) notched their goals at 13:46 and 14:50 of the third period.

Kim Kobar (The Pas, Manitoba/Margaret Barbour Collegiate) got the start in net for the Yellowjackets, making 18 saves. Brianna Schultz took the loss for the Auggies , stopping 43 shots.

The Yellowjackets (2-0-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) will hit the road Tuesday, Nov. 4 to Gustavus Adolphus College. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
