Eagles shutout UW-Superior in season finale

The UW-Superior women's soccer team headed south hoping to close out the 2014 campaign on a strong note.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, UW-LaCrosse entered their regular season finale with an eye towards the WIAC Tournament. And a skilled Eagles side proved to be too much for UW-Superior, scoring five second half goals on the way to a 7-0 shutout of the Yellowjackets in LaCrosse.

The Eagles got a hat-trick from Kristen Anderson on the way to picking up their fifth win of the season while UW-Superior finishes 3-13-2 for the year.

UW-LaCrosse (5-7-5) took an early lead in the first half when Anderson scored at 26:36 from Kaylie Hanson and Nicole Lipari for a 1-0 Eagles edge.

Kelly Denk doubled UW-LaCrosse's lead just over seven minutes later, tallying off an assist from Rachel Rogahn for a 2-0 advantage that would last through the intermission.

The Eagles pulled away in the second half as Anderson added her second and third goals of the afternoon at 47:30 and 54:58 for a 4-0 UW-LaCrosse cushion.

From there, Rogahn, Nyssa Goeres and Tina Bedwell added tallies at 75:32, 79:09 and 89:40 to make the final 7-0.

Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) took the loss in goal for the Yellowjackets, making five saves for the game.

UW-LaCrosse was paced by Bedwell with a game-high six shots while Taylor Tomczyk picked up the shutout in goal for the Eagles.
