Box Score
UW-River Falls 4, Yellowjackets 1

Things proved to be the same for the Yellowjackets after a night where three UW-River Falls goals in the latter part of the second period put the nail in the coffin.  A lack of offense and success against top-notch competition was the story in a rare Saturday night WIAC contest at Wessman Arena.  The 24 hours of preparation after a night contest didn't make a difference for the Yellowjackets as they fell to UW-River Falls 4-1.

Things looked promising for the Yellowjackets throughout the course of the first period.  Even though the Falcons had an advantage in the shot department 11-5 in the first period, the Yellowjackets held their own with the score being 0-0 with a minute remaining.

That promise came crashing down when the puck found the stick of Carly Moran in a scrum between the circles.  Moran proceeded to put a shot home on a second effort attempt to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 19:29 of the first period.

The Falcons built on the momentum from the closing minute of the second period when Sam Greeley dished a pass to Emily Stark at the left circle.  Stark fired a wrist shot that beat Yellowjacket goaltender Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate CV&I) on the left side to extend the Falcon lead to 2-0 at 4:38 of the second period.

The Yellowjackets gave the Falcons a dose of their own medicine when they notched a goal in the closing minute of the second period.  It was Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) doing the honors for the Yellowjackets when she slipped a shot past Falcon goaltender Angie Hall to cut the UW-River Falls lead in half to 2-1 at 19:51 of the second period.

Unfortunately, that was all the Yellowjackets were able to muster.  Alice Cranston provided a boost for the Falcons when she notched a goal at 11:44 of the third period to extend their lead to 3-1.

Kate Johnson put home an empty-net goal at 19:29 of the third period to put the icing on the cake for the Falcons, who held on to a 4-1 victory.

Leikkari stopped 25 shots in net for the Yellowjackets while Hall turned away 18 shots for the Falcons.

The Yellowjackets (7-4, 3-3 WIAC) will return to action on Friday, Dec. 12 when they'll square off against Marian University in a non-conference game at Wessman Arena.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
