With their move from the WIAC to the UMAC set to begin in 2015, the UW-Superior women's soccer team got a glimpse of their future when they hosted Martin Luther on Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, the preview didn't end in victory as two first-half goals propelled the UMAC-representative Knights to a 2-0 win at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex in a contest called early due to inclement weather.

UW-Superior (0-2) fell despite generating 10 shots and getting a strong performance from goal tender Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) in her second collegiate start.

Matters remained scoreless for the opening 35 minutes until Martin Luther's Hailey Johnson took advantage of a free kick opportunity from 20 yards out to score the game's opening goal with 9:48 left in the first half.

The Knights (1-1) doubled their advantage with 6:37 left when Lauren Maertz collected a free ball in the UW-Superior box and slid a shot underneath Henderson for a 2-0 edge heading into halftime.

UW-Superior attempted to rally in the second half, but a strong defensive effort led by Martin Luther goal tender Keely Keese held the Yellowjackets off the scoreboard until the game was called off with 14:51 left due to lightning.

Henderson finished with five saves for UW-Superior while Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) led the Yellowjackets offensively with three shots.

Johnson paced Martin Luther with seven shots for the contest.  Keese meanwhile stopped three UW-Superior shots to pick up the win.

UW-Superior hosts St. Mary's at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Saturday.  Opening kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
