Box Score

Superior 3, Concordia-Moorhead 1

After a split in their first two contests of the season, the UW-Superior men's soccer team entered the weekend hoping build momenum after their win over Dubuque last Saturday.

The Yellowjackets did just that against Concordia-Moorhead on Friday, getting goals from three different players on the way to posting an impressive 3-1 victory over the Cobbers in Moorhead, Minn.

With the victory, UW-Superior improved to 2-1 on the season heading into Saturday's game with Simpson College.

The Yellowjackets got off to a good start in the opening half, outshooting the Cobbers 7-4 while scoring the only goal of the half for a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

Gio Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos), who scored one of UW-Superior's two goals in the team's first victory over Dubuque, netted his second goal of the season unassisted at 38:18 to give the Yellowjackets the edge at halftime.

UW-Superior doubled their advantage just over 29 minutes later when Ben Kasper (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) scored on a header inside the six-yard box at 67:24 for a 2-0 cushion.

The Yellowjackets tallied again at 75:19 as John Little (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Brian Grand (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) for a 3-0 advantage.

Concordia-Moorhead (0-3) trimmed the deficit to 3-1 when Roland Oyou tallied at 85:15.  But the Cobbers would get no closer as Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) finished with seven saves for his first win of the year.

Ben Glogoza took the loss in net for the Cobbers with eight saves

For the game, the Yellowjackets held a 17-12 edge in shots, including an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Opening kickoff between the Yellowjackets and Storm is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Concordia's Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
