Box Score

UM-Morris 4, Superior 0

After finding themselves down two goals early in Saturday's game with St. Mary's, the UW-Superior women's soccer team hoped for a better start against UM-Morris on Sunday.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, history repeated itself as the Cougars scored twice in the opening 11:28 and never looked back on the way to a 4-0 win in their non-conference contest at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The Cougars (1-3) got off to a fast start as Christina Mollan took a cross-field pass from teammate Lindsay Clay before breaking in on goal and placing a shot underneath UW-Superior net minder Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) at 8:39 for a quick 1-0 advantage.

Molly Hancuh made it 2-0 just under three minutes later as she followed up Justine Wolf's rebound with her first marker of the season at the 11:28 mark.

UW-Superior (0-4) had their best chance later in the half when Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) attempted a looping shot from 25 yards out that nearly fooled Cougars' goal tender Morgan Delaney.  The sophomore goal tender tipped the attempt just wide however, preserving UM-Morris' two-goal lead heading into halftime.

The Cougars made it 3-0 just 7:07 into the second half when Emma LaChance's shot deflected past Henderson with 38:53 showing on the clock.

Mollan closed out the scoring 4:52 later with her second goal of the game on assists from Hancuh and Rachael Berns to make it a 4-0 final.

For the game, the Cougars held an 18-5 edge in shots, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

Henderson made five saves for UW-Superior in goal while Coombs finished with two shots on goal for the Yellowjackets.

Delany picked up the shut out with three saves in goal for UM-Morris.

The Yellowjackets will host Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.  Opening kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Yellowjacket Field.
