Yellowjackets fall to Minnesota Morris

Box Score

Minnesota Morris 2, Yellowjackets 0

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team welcomed the Minnesota Morris Cougars to the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon, looking to win their third UMAC match of the year.  The Yellowjackets were also looking to bounce back following a 3-0 loss at the hands of Macalester Wednesday night.

The match did not get started out the way the Yellowjackets would have liked, as the Cougars first three shots were on goal.  Yellowjacket goalkeeper Allie Paige was able to turn away all three shots, but Morris was able to put one by her on their fourth attempt when Ivie Brooks hit a chip shot just out of Paige's reach to make it 1-0 Cougars.

The Yellowjackets were not able to generate any offense in the first half, as they were outshot 9-1, including 5-0 in shots-on-goal.

The Yellowjackets offense started to wake up in the second half as they fired off six shots, including three on goal.  It appeared as though the Yellowjackets may be able to tie it up, but just like that the Cougars delivered a back-breaking blow when Brooks scored her second of the match on a breakaway to make it 2-0 at 63:29.
The statistics were as even as they come in this match, with both teams having 15 shots. The area the Yellowjackets fell short was the area that matters most, as they were unable to find the back of the net all match.

Paige made seven saves for the Yellowjackets, who with the loss falls to 2-3-0 on the year. Torri Jordan made seven saves for the Cougars in the shutout effort.

The Yellowjackets (2-8-0, 2-4-0 UMAC) next match is October 10, when they travel across the bridge to take on rival St. Scholastica in round two of the border-battle. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
