Box Score St. Scholastica 4, Yellowjackets 0The Yellowjacket women's soccer team went on the road Wednesday for a rematch against border rival St. Scholastica looking for revenge following their 2-0 loss at the hands of the Saints earlier this season. Unfortunately the Yellowjackets were unable to even the season series as St. Scholastica took the match 4-0.
The Saints got the scoring going early as Kristen Olsen took a shot off of a rebound that beat Yellowjacket goalkeeper
Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. St. Scholastica added to their lead when Becca Rancour tallied an unassisted goal at 27:01.
The Yellowjackets had a shot to cut the lead in half in the 41st minute, but a
Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) shot hit the post, while the follow-up from
Jordan Blomquist (Princeton, Minn./Princeton) went high. Three minutes later
Lily Marcelius (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) was issued a yellow card and the Saints capitalized as Jill Rostby scored off of the feed from the free kick to give the Saints a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
The Yellowjackets did not fare much better in the second half, as St. Scholastica took a 4-0 lead at 77:00. The Yellowjackets were not able to get anything going offensively in the half, as the Saints did not allow a shot until the 85th minute.
St. Scholastica outshot the Yellowjackets by a 13-5 margin, including 10-1 shots-on-goal.
Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) had the shot on goal for the Yellowjackets.
Henderson made six saves in goal for the Yellowjackets, and falls to 0-6-0 on the year with the loss. Kelsey Reeves made one save to get the win for the Saints.
The Yellowjackets (2-9-0, 2-5-0) next match will be Saturday, October 17 when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. to take on conference foe Martin Luther College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
