Macalester Shuts Down Yellowjackets

Box Score

Macalester 3, Yellowjackets 0

Last Saturday, things finally took a positive turn for the Yellowjackets women's soccer team. After several tight losses the Yellowjackets got back in the win column at the hands of conference foe Crown. Wednesday they hit the road for their second-to-last non-conference tilt of the 2015 campaign. The opponent was the MIAC's Macalester College, and let's just say that the Scots were anything but gracious hosts.

Macalester shut down the Yellowjackets and picked up a 3-0 win in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Getting her second straight start and fourth of the season, Yellowjacket goalkeeper Allie Paige, the reigning UMAC Defensive Player of the Week, played arguably her strongest match of the season, keeping the Yellowjackets in things despite a territorial advantage for Macalester.

Macalester opened the scoring in the 35th minute Jaime Hasama took a pass up the middle and scored from about eight yards out to make it 1-0. Paige's stellar goaltending and good defense by the Yellowjackets kept it that way until the 67th minute when Hasama scored her second of the match, stealing the ball and letting a long shot go that eluded Paige to push the score to 2-0. The Scots closed out the scoring a few minutes later, in the 70th minute, and again it was Hasama doing the damage. Hasama completed the hat trick with a shot from about eight yards out to make the final score 3-0.

Macalester sent 32 shots toward the Yellowjacket goal, with 13 of them ending up on goal. Paige finished the day with 10 saves. Her record for the year now stands at an even 2-2-0. At the other end three goalkeepers combined in the winning effort for Macalester.

The Yellowjackets (2-7-0, 2-3-0 UMAC) return home Saturday, October 10 when they host the University of Minnesota Morris at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
