Yellowjackets Dominant in Win Over Concordia-Moorhead

Saturday marked the end of the regular season for the Yellowjacket men's soccer team. Rainy weather forced the match to be moved from the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex across the bridge to Public Schools Stadium in Duluth. Different venue, same results as the Yellowjackets dominated from start to finish in their 3-0 win.

The first period saw the Yellowjackets dominate control of the ball, as they were constantly on the offensive. This dominance paid off at 26:40 when Ryan Linsmayer (Dresser, Wis./Osceola) was able to hit a header past the Cobber goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.

Less than four minutes later, at 30:22, Linsmayer scored his second of the match when he took a rebound and beat the Cobber goalkeeper bottom right, giving the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead that they would maintain the rest of the half.

The first half was all Yellowjackets, as they outshot Concordia 18-3, holding a 12-0 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Coach Joe Mooney used the 2-0 advantage to give his starters some rest in the second half, giving many of his reserves significant playing time. The level of play stayed high, as the Yellowjackets continued to dominate control of the ball. Ryan Wisdom (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) capped of the night, putting the Yellowjackets up 3-0 at 86:32 with his sixth goal of the season.

Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) started in goal for the Yellowjackets, making three saves in the shutout effort. Wilhelm is now 14-5-0 on the season.

Ben Glogoza started in goal for the Cobbers, allowing three goals while making 11 saves in the losing effort.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (15-5-0, 8-2-0 UMAC) is a home playoff game Wednesday, November 4 against Minnesota Morris. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex.
