Yellowjackets Tie UW-Eau Claire

Box Score

Yellowjackets 1, UW-Eau Claire 1

Saturday afternoon marked the second game of a home-and-home weekend series against WIAC foe UW-Eau Claire for the Yellowjacket women's hockey team. The first matchup between these two on Friday did not play out the way the Yellowjackets would have liked, as they fell to the Blugolds 2-1. This time around things played out a little differently, as the Yellowjackets and the Blugolds skated to a 1-1 tie.

Following a scoreless first period, UW-Eau Claire broke the tie just over five minutes into the second. Yellowjacket goaltender Natasha Singer (Kimberley, British Columbia/Warner) was unable to corral a Blugold shot, and the ensuing loose puck was picked up by Mariah Czech who blasted a shot past Signer to make it 1-0 UW-Eau Claire at the 5:31 mark of the second. Lexi Wilson and Sydney Schneider assisted on the even strength goal.

The rest of the period saw many Yellowjacket scoring opportunities arise, but Blugold goalie Paige Turner was able to turn away ever attempt.

The Yellowjackets had two early opportunities to tie up the game in the third, as the Blugolds took two minor penalties in the first seven minutes. Once again the Eau Claire defense held, as the Yellowjackets were unable to find the back of the net on either power play opportunity.

This did not deter the Yellowjacket attack, as they kept firing shots on net. They constant barrage of shots finally paid off when Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba) scored her fifth goal of the season at the 13:37 mark of the third to tie the game up at 1-1. Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) assisted on the even strength tally.

The 1-1 score would remain the rest of regulation and through the five minute overtime period as the Yellowjackets held on to tie the Blugolds.

Singer was making her first career start in goal for the Yellowjackets and played phenomenally, allowing one goal while making 34 saves.

Turner was just as phenominal for the Blugolds, allowing one goal while making 39 saves.

The Yellowjackets (3-3-2, 0-1-1 WIAC) next match is a weekend series at UW-Stevens Point beginning Friday, November 20. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
