Yellowjackets Sunk By Falcons

Box Score

UW-River Falls 3, Yellowjackets 1

The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was on the road Saturday afternoon for their second game of a home-and-home series against WIAC foe UW-River Falls. Following a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Falcons Friday night, the Yellowjackets were hoping to end the weekend series with a split.

UW-River Falls scored the first three goals of the game to sink any hope that the Yellowjackets had of earning a split, as they fell 3-1.

The first period saw the Yellowjackets offense struggle to create many opportunities. On the flip side, the Falcons were constantly on the offensive in the period. UW-River Falls was able to strike pay dirt at the 7:51 mark of the first when Dani Buehrer was able to beat Yellowjacket goalkeeper Natasha Singer (Kimberley, British Columbia/Warner) to make it 1-0 Falcons. Carly Moran assisted on the even strength goal.

The second period saw the Falcons push their lead to 3-0 in the span of four minutes. The first UW-River Falls goal of the second period came at 10:17 when Jessie Anderson's shot was able to beat Singer. Jillayne Gilbert and Kayla Oberding assisted on the even strength goal.

UW-River Falls scored their third goal of the game at 13:51 in the second. Following a Kelly Cockerill (Selkirk, Manitoba/Oak Park) cross-checking penalty at 12:12, the Falcons Chloe Kinsel found the back of the net for her fourth goal against the Yellowjackets this weekend. Paige Johnson and Kayla Oberding assisted on the goal.

The Yellowjackets were able to get on the board at the 19:33 mark of the second. An Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) shot hit the pipe and deflected to Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover), who buried the putback for her fifth goal of the season. Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba) and Heid assisted on the even strength tally.

The third period saw the Yellowjackets go on the power play three times, but they were unable to find the back of the net as they fell to UW-River Falls 3-1

Singer made her sixth consecutive start in goal for the Yellowjackets, allowing three goals while making 26 saves. Singer is now 2-2-2 on the season.

Angie Hall started in goal for the Falcons, allowing one goal while making 25 saves.

The Yellowjackets were 0-4 on the power play. UW-River Falls finished 1-4 on the power play.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (5-5-3, 1-3-2 WIAC) is a non-conference matchup Tuesday, December 8 against border rival St. Scholastica. Game time from Wessman Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
