Solis' Big Day Lifts Yellowjackets Past Bethany Lutheran

After Wednesday's disappointing match against Twin Ports rival St. Scholastica where it seemed that everything that could go wrong did, the Yellowjacket men's soccer team needed something to go right. They had that need fulfilled Saturday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tilt at Bethany Lutheran College.

The Yellowjackets turned in a dominating performance Saturday, limiting the Vikings to just four shots and getting goals from seven different players en route to a 7-0 victory.

Reyman Solis (Kirkland, Ill./Huntley), who entered the season as the top returning scorer for the Yellowjackets finally got into the scoring column with his first tally of the season. He also added three assists to lead the Yellowjacket attack.

In the first half the Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a goal by Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset). The marker was the team-leading fourth of the year for Bucklew. The lead went to two in the 41st minute on an Erik Boese (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) goal. Then just over a minute later the Yellowjackets increased the lead when freshman Silvio Brych (Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil/Elias Moreira) scored his first of the year to make it a 3-0 at 41:15.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Vikings 10-2 in the first half and had an edge in shots on goal of 5-1.

At the 54:13 mark of the second half the Yellowjackets made it a 4-0 match when Ryan Wisdom (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) scored his second goal of the season. John Little (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) made the score 5-0, scoring his first goal of the season in the 77th minute. With time winding down in the match the Yellowjackets added two more scores. Joao Moreira (Teresopolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Sao Paulo) scored his first goal of the season at 84:58 to make it 6-0. Then in the 87th minute of the match Solis closed out the scoring, netting an unassisted goal to make the final score 7-0.

In addition to his goal Brych also had an assist on the day, while Trevor Laroche-Theune (LaPointe, Wis./Bayfield ) had two assists.

Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) got the start in goal and made just one save in 65:30 of work. He gave way to Ben Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) who made two saves in 24:30 of playing time. It's the second time this season that Wilhelm and Nelson have combined on a shutout.

At the other end Matt Bitter made 10 saves for Bethany Lutheran.

For the match the Yellowjackets toutshot the Vikings 17-3.

The Yellowjackets (7-2-0, 2-1-0 UMAC) return home Sunday when they host Lawrence University at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex. The match is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
