The University of Wisconsin-Superior could not end its weekend skid, falling twice at the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Yellowjackets were swept in straight sets by the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) and then the hosts from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in their two match-ups on Saturday afternoon.
The Tommies used a balanced attack to knock off UW-Superior ( ) in match one of the day, with Ellie Etzell hitting .571 with nine kills to lead St. Thomas. The Tommies hit .304 in the match-up and had just seven total errors. The Yellowjackets put together their best set in the opener, going point-for-point with St. Thomas but falling 25-22 despite hitting .282 for the set. The Tommies took the final two sets by matching 25-11 scores.
The host Blugolds edged out the Yellowjackets in match two of the afternoon for UWS, as UW-Eau Claire hit .267 to eke out the victory against UW-Superior hitting .213 for the match. UWEC took the sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-18 to sweep despite the near-even score.

The road ahead gets no easier for UW-Superior as the team hosts the No. 24-ranked University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Tuesday evening in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Mortorelli Gymnasium.
