Fresh off an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week selection for his hat trick last Wednesday, junior forward
Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) added another three-goal effort as he led the University of Wisconsin Superior to a 6-1 victory over Finlandia University in the team's regular season home finale on Tuesday afternoon at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex.
The Yellowjackets jumped out early on Bucklew's first of the day just 2:03 into the game, redirecting a pass from senior midfielder
Ryan Linsmayer (Dresser, Wis./Osceola). Junior defender
Hugo Roos (Halmstad, Sweden/Aspero Idrottsgymnasium), who also earned UMAC Player of the Week honors on Monday for his defensive efforts a week ago, tacked on his second goal of the year just three minutes later at the 5:19 mark of the first half. Bucklew added his second of the day with an assist from senior forward
Ryan Wisdom (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) at 24:25, and senior midfielder
Reyman Solis (Kirkland, Ill./Huntley H.S.) added to the lead once again ten minutes later. Finlandia finally broke through on a long outlet pass and Alex Freeman made good on a one-on-one with the goalkeeper to break up the shutout.
UW-Superior (11-7-0) would maintain the 4-1 lead through halftime and much of the second half. Bucklew added his hat trick score with just 3:05 remaining in the match-up, and sophomore midfielder
Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) extended the lead to 6-1 in the closing seconds of the half, getting an assist from sophomore defender
Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor C.C.). The Yellowjackets out-shot Finlandia (7-10-0) by a margin of 31-4 on the day, including 12-2 on-net. Senior goalkeeper
Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area H.S.) picked up the victory between the pipes, making one save in 79 minutes of action before being relieved by sophomore
Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy).
