The University of Wisconsin Superior ended its 2016 season on a high note, celebrating its lone senior, right-side hitter
Alexis Landherr (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti H.S.) during the pregame, and picking up an 3-0 victory over North Central University in the team's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference finale on Saturday afternoon at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
As a senior captain, Landherr led the Yellowjacket on and off the court throughout the season, knocking down eight kills on the day. UW-Superior knocked off North Central (12-15, 2-6 UMAC) in straight sets but needed a comeback effort in game number two to do so, winning in order 25-21, 25-23, and 25-14. The Yellowjackets were down by 21-14 in the second set before running off seven consecutive points and 11-of-13 to stake a 2-0 lead. They rolled with that momentum, hitting a match-best .265 in game three with just six errors.

Lynne Deadrick used everyone available to her in the victory with seven different players having at least one kill on the day for UWS. Freshman outside hitter
Brylee Colligan (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji H.S.) led the way posting a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs on the day while junior
Leah Nightingale (Dayton, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's H.S.) had nine. Sophomore setter
Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley H.S.) had 35 assists while junior libero
Mackenzie Dahlin (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna H.S.) had 16 digs and sophomore
Kaila Meyer (Brownsdale, Minn./Hayfield H.S.) 12 to lead UWS. While the Yellowjackets collected just three blocks on the day, their front line caused North Central trouble all match as the Rams hit just .098 and were forced to dig their way back into it. Ashley Kelzer and Karlee Huber each had seven kills for NCU.
UW-Superior ends its season at 8-22 overall and 3-5 in league play during its second go-around in the UMAC.
