The University of Wisconsin-Superior fell in a high-scoring affair against intrastate rival the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on the road, as the Pointers rolled past the Yellowjackets 85-65 in Stevens Point on Tuesday night.
UW-Superior (1-4) held a 6-5 lead after the opening five minutes, but a seven-point swing in favor of the home team gave UW-Stevens Point (3-2) ahead for the duration of the game. Still, the Yellowjackets boasted two high scorers in the game as
Christian Sellers (Ontario, Calif./Colony H.S.) netted 18 points off the bench, hitting 11-of-12 from the free throw line while junior
Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East H.S.) was 5-of-8 from the floor with 16 points. Ethan Bublitz had a team-high 17 points for the Pointers.
After Stevens Point built its lead up to as many as 19 in the first half, a run for the Yellowjackets would trim it down to eight as freshman
Rafael Monteiro (São Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina College) laid in a basket with 16:39 remaining. Monteiro had 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds; he has yet to finish without double digit scoring in his young career.
