UW-Superior settles for bridge series split as St. Scholastica takes game two

The University of Wisconsin Superior settled for a series split with bridge rival the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon as the Yellowjackets fell 3-0 against the Saints at Wessman Arena.

UW-Superior (5-7-0) gave up a pair of powerplay scores to St. Scholastica (6-5-1), but the Yellowjackets out-shot the Saints 29-18 on the day. CSS goaltender Lexi Thomeczek stopped all 29 pucks that went her way, including five off the stick of junior forward Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover H.S.). Senior goalkeeper Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 15 saves for UWS.

Sierra Hanowski opened up the scoring for the Saints, scoring at 12:14 of the first with an assist from Denisa Lalikova.  She would add an assist later in the game. St. Scholastica scored once in each period to knock off the Yellowjackets. Giorgia Battisti put the Saints up 2-0 at 6:28 of the second, getting a second assist from Lalikova as well as Paige Forman. Abby Sawyer capped the scoring with a powerplay tally at 1:17 of the third. The Saints finished 2-for-6 with the skater advantage while UWS finished 0-for-3 on the day.

UP NEXT
The Yellowjackets will return to action in January. UW-Superior will host the South Korean National Team in an exhibition on Friday, January 6. The puck is set to drop on the matinee at 1:00 p.m.
