Yellowjackets spread the offense around to knock off Minnesota Morris

Four players hit double digits scoring and all nine Yellowjackets who hit the floor contributed to the stat sheet as the University of Wisconsin Superior returned to its home court with an 85-76 victory over the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday night in Superior.

UW-Superior (3-12, 2-5 UMAC) knocked down ten three-pointers in the game and needed each of them as UM-Morris (8-6, 4-3 UMAC) shot 51.9 percent for the game (28-of-54), including seven threes of the Cougars' own.  The game saw seven lead changes and six tie scores, with the Yellowjackets falling behind early, trailing by as much as seven points at 11:35 of the first half before coming back to lead by as many as 11 late in the game. Sophomore guard Trevor Oswald (Isle, Minn./Isle H.S.) provided the spark the Yellowjackets needed off the bench as he hit four three-pointers to add 18 points. Junior guard Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East H.S.) had a game-high 23 points, while sophomore Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights H.S.) had 13, and freshman forward Rafael Monteiro (São Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina College) 10 points to go with a team-best nine rebounds.

UWS shot 44.3 percent for the game, hitting 31-of-70 overall but hit an even 15-of-30 (50.0 percent) after the break. After taking just two foul shots in the first half, the Yellowjackets were 12-of-15 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. The Cougars would finished 13-of-20 overall from the line. Five players reached double figures for Minnesota Morris, led by C.D. Douglas  who had 21 points and five assists.

UW-Superior will look to make it two in a row as the team's four-game homestand continues. The Yellowjackets welcome Crown College to Mortorelli Gym on Saturday afternoon with opening tip set for 5:00 p.m. , following the women's contest.
