The University of WIsconsin Superior scored first but could not hang on as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire picked up a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series victory over the Yellowjackets with a 4-1 win at Wessman Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Blugolds knocked off UW-Superior (7-11-0, 1-5-0 WIAC) by an identical score in Superior on Saturday as they had the previous night on their home ice. UW-Eau Claire (RV, 14-5-1, 3-1-0 WIAC) scored twice in each of the second and third periods after the Yellowjackets took an early lead when freshman forward Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.) netted her third of the season, getting an assist  from freshman Hannah Currin (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy H.S.), just 3:03 into the game.

UWS held the lead through the first intermission, but Abby Roeser tied the game for the Blugolds at 8:23 of the second period. Lexi Wilson scored the next two goals for UW-Eau Claire, putting the Blugolds up for good, while Mariah Czech scored the final goal of the game on the powerplay. Eau Claire would finish 1-for-6 with the skater advantage, while the Yellowjackets were 0-for-3. Sophomore Natasha Singer (Kimberley, B.C./Warner H.S.) made 27 stops for UWS, while Erin Connolly stopped 12 shots for the Blugolds.

The Yellowjackets will have another home-and-home series in WIAC play next week as they take on the No. 2 University of Wisconsin-River Falls. UW-Superior will face the Falcons on the road Friday night with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. before the two teams play a 2:00 p.m. match-up in Superior on Saturday.
