UW-Superior 82, UW-Stout 68
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (November 18, 2017) – Superior bounced back in their second game of the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic, rolling over UW-Stout. Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) led the 'Jackets with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Superior would get on the board first, as Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) cashed in on the pass from Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover). The first quarter was a defensive one, the Blue Devils would tie the game at 4-4 for almost four minutes, until Eva Reinertson drained a 2-point jumper to have the lead, until the Blue Devils tied at 6-6 seconds later. The 'Jackets would find their grove, ending the quarter on a 9-4 run, going ahead 21-12.
Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) would get the first two points in the second, sinking free throws. The Blue Devils would get to within two points midway through the quarter at 25-23, but Kontey, Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and Reinertsen soon changed that to 31-25. The halfway point had Superior on top by 11, 40-29.
Larson added to her line in the third quarter, hitting back-to-back free throws. The Yellowajckets would then go on another run to stretch their lead; starting at the 6:20 mark, the 'Jackets put together 15 straight points to end the period 63-48.
Superior would open the final quarter with two 3-pointers from Larson and Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter). The hot shooting continued throughout the final minutes, as the team shot 57 percent from the field, and 42 percent from three, to win 81-68.
Five 'Jackets scored in double-digits. Kontny led with a double-double, 15 points and 10 boards, Kane had 14 off the bench, Norlin 13, with 10 rebounds, Larson with 13 as well, and Reinertsen with 12.
The 'Jackets also posted a season-high in rebounds with 52, and moved the ball well, notching 14 assists.
Stout's Kyncaide Diedrich scored a game-high 20, and Bailey Diersen had 17 for the Blue Devils.
The 'Jackets will continue their road stretch as they travel to St. Ben's, Tuesday Nov. 21, tipping off at 7 p.m.
