SUPERIOR, Wis. (December 1, 2017) – The Yellowjackets took their second victory from the UW-Stout Blue Devils Friday night. Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) scored a game-high 27 points, while Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) had 10 of her 12 points in the second half.
Kontny would get the first points for the Yellowjackets on a layup assisted from Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake). Tucker would then take the lead, 4-3, on her own layup, assisted by Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover). The game would be back and forth in the first quarter, but Superior would get a 16-13 lead with 3:04 remaining on another Kontny layup. The 'Jackets held their lead to the end of the quarter, 20-17.
Superior used the second quarter to build their lead and not give it up. Their biggest lead of the second came with 1:29 remaining as Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) sank a 2-point jumper, assisted by Leger to head into the half up 36-26.
Stout cut into the lead, getting it to four points at 6:21 of the half, but a transition 3-pointer from Reinertsen would get the lead back to seven. Brittany Laehn (Gilmanton, Wis./Gilmanton) would stretch the lead to even more, 12 points, with a three of her own with 38 seconds remaining. 'Jackets continued to lead at the end of the third 59-51.
The Blue Devils continued to fight, but Reinertsen would hit yet another three at 6:03, assisted by Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), to spark a Yellowjacket run that got Superior a 14-point lead and clinch the game.
Kontny's 27 points came on 12-of-18 shooting, while Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) scored 17 points and graved eight rebounds. Reinertsen finished with 12 points, grabbing four rebounds. Leger had six assists in the game, and Kane had seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
The 'Jackets shot the ball well, hitting 55 percent from the field, including 4-of 8 from 3-point range. Superior also dominated the point, getting 52 points, compared to the Blue Devils 26.
Bailey Diersen scored 21 points for the Blue Devils.
The Yellowjackets will continue their home stand next Wednesday, Dec. 6, playing in their first UMAC contest of the season against rival St. Scholastica at 7:30 p.m.
