‘Jackets downed in first UMAC contest of season

St. Scholastica 75, UW-Superior 56

SUPERIOR, Wis. (December 6, 2017) – The 'Jackets faced a Saints team who played their third game in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium this season, but the first against the Yellowjackets. Superior battled with the rival Saints, but couldn't get the W at home.

Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade, Serbia) got the party started for Superior with a nifty spin move from the baseline leading to a reverse layup. The Saints answered back with a 3-pointer in the right corner. Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) would knock down a few free throws early, but the Saints kept firing from three. Milenkovic would add a layup with 10:50 remaining, assisted by Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn. /Columbia Heights) to get nine points on the board for the Yellowjackets. Milenkovic would continue to shoot the ball well in the half, getting 11 points in 14 minutes. The Yellowjackets found themselves down at halftime, 40-24.

Both teams were sluggish coming out of the locker room, scoring four points each in the opening first four minutes of the second half. Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) would find the bucket on a 2-point jumper from the right elbow at 15:30, cutting the Saint lead to 16. The 'Jackets kept fighting; Coleman would get the and-one layup to get it down to 53-40 at 10:51. Williams got into double digits after a layup from the left block at 2:12 remaining, but the Saints would prevail,

Milenkovic would finish with a team-high 22 points and a double-double with 10 boards, while Williams and Scott finished with 14 and 11 respectively. Coleman finished with nine points.

Scholastica's Newman had 22 points.

The Yellowjackets will play another UMAC contest this Saturday, taking on the Minnesota Morris Cougars at 3 p.m.
