UW-Superior bows out of WIAC O'Brien Cup at the hands of No. 3 UW-River Falls

The University of Wisconsin Superior allowed a pair of first-period goals and saw the No. 3-ranked University of Wisconsin River Falls hang on for a 3-0 victory to knock the Yellowjackets out of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference O'Brien Cup Tournament on Saturday afternoon in River Falls, Wisconsin.

UW-Superior (12-15-0) saw its season come to a close as the Falcons' Dani Sibley scored a pair of goals in the victory for UW-River Falls (25-2-0). Hailey Nielsen got the scoring started for the Falcons just 4:37 into the game getting an assist from Sibley and Hailey Herdine, but the River Falls would take a 2-0 lead to the first intermission when Sibley scored her first of the day on the powerplay with just five seconds remaining in the period, getting assists from Nielsen and Carly Moran. She added a third score to the Falcons' total at 3:30 of the third to put the game on ice thanks to an assist from Herdine.

River Falls out-shot the Yellowjackets 31-17 in this one, and freshman Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.) led the way with five shots on goal for UW-Superior. Angie Hall stopped all 17 pucks that went her way, while senior goaltender Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 28 saves for the Yellowjackets. UWS finished 0-for-2 on the powerplay, while the Falcons would end the day 1-for-5 with the skater advantage.

With the defeat, the Yellowjackets bid farewell to four seniors: Kobar, as well as forwards Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.), Amanda Coey (Brandon, Man./Crocus Plains H.S.), and Leah Elledge (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.).
