The University of Wisconsin Superior made quick work of a pair of victories on Friday, picking up a pair of shutouts in just over two hours of game time at the 2017 Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Yellowjackets opened the trip with a 3-0 payback victory over Marian University and followed that up with a 5-0 victory over Centenary (N.J.) College.
UW-Superior (4-2) got the day started early as sophomore catcher
Gabby Gidley (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) doubled leading off the first inning against Marian (9-2), eventually coming around to score on a single by sophomore desginated hitter
Bailey Armstrong (Scandia, Minn/Forest Lake H.S.). Sophomore
Saige Patrick (Steinbach, Man./St. Mary's Academy) continued her hot streak to start the season with two-run double in the fourth, scoring first-year infielders
Bobbi Jean Miller (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis H.S.) and
Bailey Kinnunen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids H.S.).
First-year right-hander
Megan Pehrson (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids H.S.) (2-1) did the rest of the work, striking out four in a complete game shutout effort, allowing five hits and one walk on the day. Shannon Huray (5-2) took the loss for the Sabres, as the Yellowjackets earned a bit of revenge for an 8-0 Marian victory over UWS earlier this season.

The first inning continued to be a strong one for the Yellowjackets in game two. Kinnunen continued her own hot streak with a two-run double, scoring junior infielder
Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes H.S.) and Gidley. She then came around to score on a single by Miller to put UW-Superior up 3-0.
Senior righty
Sarah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld H.S.) allowed a pair of bloop hits, striking out four in another shutout effort for the Yellowjackets, moving back above .500 on the season at 2-1. UWS chased Samantha Darling (2-3) in the fifth inning, plating two more runs on a fielder's choice RBI by Patrick, with pinch runner
Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.) coming around to score on a throw after the play.
