SUPERIOR (Sept. 1, 2017) - In their first game of the season, the Yellowjacket men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season, going down to the Gustavus Adolphus Gusties in the second period.

The first period was a defensive one for both teams, warding off shots wide, and making good saves on both sides. Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) had an attempt early, but it was wide.

Superior held off the Gusties until the 76th minute, when Gustie Arthur Parens scored on a second chance, after his first was deflected by Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy). This would be the only goal of the day for either side.

The Yellowjackets managed five shots, each from a different player, Elliot Chapman (Lancaster, England/Ripley St. Thomas) and Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) had two shots on goal, but they were fended off by Gustavus goalie Matt Bateman. The Gusties had 15 shots, eight on goal. Superior goalie Herd made seven saves on the day.

The Yellowjackets will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 3 as they take on Concordia Moorhead at 12 p.m.
