MORRIS, Minn. (January 20, 2018) – The Yellowjackets are now on their second lap of UMAC play as they faced the Minnesota Morris Cougars on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cougars for the second time.
Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade, Serbia) got on the board first for Superior, getting the layup after a Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) offensive rebound, but Superior would fall in an early 10-2 hole. Milenkovic would continue to score, getting eight of his points in 12 minutes, making the game 16-12, assisted by Nate Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls). The Cougars would pile on open a run to go up 27-14 on the 'Jackets; Kalien made it 27-17 and then 32-20 with another three, assisted by Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights).
The Yellowjackets continued to fight, Milenkovic nailed a 3-pointer, assisted by Coleman, followed by two free throws and a layup go get 18 first-half points. Coleman would get a layup of his own with seven seconds remaining in the half to make it a 39-32 game after one period.
Morris would jump out to another run in the beginning of the second half; Kalien would get his third three of the game at 16:22, assisted by Milenkovic. Coleman would get four straight points on a layup and a few free throws to make it 54-40 Cougars. Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn. /Columbia Heights) and Reykdal would get on board thereafter with a layup from Williams and a 3-pointer from Reykdal.
Milenkovic added another 3-pointer at the 6:50 point of the second half, assisted by Coleman, followed by Coleman points, assisted by Kalien to make it 68-56 Cougars. The Yellowjackets would add nine more points in final two points, including a Scott three and two buckets from Trevor Paulus (Brule, Wis./Northwestern), but Superior fell to Morris 75-63.
Milenkovic finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while Coleman had 13 points and five assists. Kalien knocked down three 3-pointers, and Pualus finished with six.
The Cougars C.D. Douglas had a game-high 30 points.
The Yellowjackets will be at home next week, taking on Northland on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
