SUPERIOR, Wis. (January 24, 2018) – The Yellowjackets rolled to their 10th UMAC win Wednesday night, scoring their largest margin of the 2017-18 campaign.

Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) would get the ball rolling for the Yellowjackets, knocking down the routine 2-point jumper on an assist from Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake). Tucker then got the layup on the next possession for two of her own. The 'Jackets soon jumped out to a 10-2 lead after Tucker got in the passing lane, drove the length of the court, and was fouled. She sank both free throws for the early lead. Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter), Mackenzie Kmecik (Superior, Wis./Superior), and Kontny would each get 2-point baskets to end the period up 20-6.

The 'Jackets continued their hot shooting, getting six quick points including an easy layup for Tucker, assisted by Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti). Kontny would add three points at the 6:10 mark as she got the and-one basket and free throw, while Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) finished the tough layup on an assist from Carpenter to extend the lead to 21. Carpenter found a three with about 50 seconds remaining in the half, assisted by Morgan Nepstad (Hendrum, Minn./Park Christian), and Taylor Kane (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) a layup with 20 remaining to push the 'Jackets to a 40-14 lead at the half.

Norlin scored four straight on the low block to open the second half for the Yellowjackets, followed two free throws from Kotny and a 3-pointer from Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover) increase the gap. A few steals and fastbreak layups would get Superior up 37 points; Brittany Laehn (Gilmanton, Wis./Gilmanton) would extend the lead to an even 40 on a 3-pointer assisted by Kane, while Kane found a basket of her own on the following possession.

Laehn and Carpenter would each knock down a three to finish the period, holding a 71-23 after three quarters.

The 'Jackets slowed a bit in quarter number four, Morgan Anderson (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) would score the first bucket of period at the 3:35 mark, hitting the 2-point jumper. Kaly Kostrova (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) would add a bucket thereafter, and Ellie Leadstrom (Superior, Wis./Superior) would score at 2:34. The final seconds would tick down, as the Yellowjackets secured their 10th UMAC win of the season, 77-28.

Kontny finished with a total 19 points, putting her eighth all-time on the UWS scoring list; she also added three rebounds and four steals to her line. Including Kontny, four 'Jackets had double-digit points, as Norlin and Carpenter each had 12, and Tucker 11. Larson was all over the court, getting three rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Superior will look to continue their streak this Saturday, as they travel to Martin Luther for a 5 p.m. tip with the Knights.
