‘Jackets gain halftime lead but fall behind in the second half

Crown 77, UW-Superior 69

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (January 3, 2018) – The Yellowjackets gained a halftime lead, but the Storm fired back in the second half to take the UMAC contest.

The 'Jackets were down early to the Storm, 8-2 in the early going, but were able to hang in with a Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) 2-point jumper, and one of Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade, Serbia)'s five 3-pointers. Two more free throws from Milenkovic would make the game 17-15 in favor of Crown. The Storm would then go up by 10 with under five minutes remaining, but Superior when on a 17-6 run, which included two back-to-back threes from Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn); the 'Jackets held a 36-35 lead at halftime.

Superior would build a small lead on a layup from Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) layup, assisted by Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East), and a layup from Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn. /Columbia Heights) at 10:04 remaining. The Storm would come back to tie later in the half, and then hold the lead; Coleman and Williams knocked down 3-pointers in the final minutes, but it wasn't enough to beat Crown.

Milenkovic led Superior with 21 points on 7-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-8 from deep. Coleman would score 19, with seven rebounds, and four assists. Reykdal found all of his points from the 3-point range, and the 'Jackets shot 50 percent from that spot overall.

Crown had four players in double-digit scoring.

The Yellowjackets will continue UMAC play this Saturday, Jan. 6, as they host Bethany Lutheran at 3 p.m. in the Mertz.
