MORRIS, Minn.: The UW-Superior women's soccer team received goals from
Sarah Fjeran (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) and
Kaylie Johnson (Amery, Wis./Amery), blanking Minnesota Morris, 2-0, on Saturday.
The win for the Yellowjackets (7-10-2, 6-5-1) gets them into the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Fjeran opened the scoring of a tight game in the second half, putting a crossing pass low in the left corner of the net in the 52nd minute. Her sixth goal of the season was assisted by
Claire Smith (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) and
Annah Schussman (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji), the first of two helpers for Schussman on the day.
Johnson added to the lead in the 67th minute, converting a lead pass past UMM goalkeeper Bailey Tschida (five saves). The goal was Johnson's first career tally in 50 matches on the Yellowjackets' backline.
UMM outshot the Superior, 16-8, for the game with the 'Jackets putting seven on target to the Cougars' six. UWS goalkeeper
Madison Gutekunst (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka) stopped all she saw for her fourth shutout of her freshman season.
