ST. PAUL Minn.: Aaron Blanchard (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) scored the game-winning goal in the
67th minute to lift the UW-Superior men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Augsburg in the opening round of the N.C.A.A. tournament at South Field on the campus of the University of St. Thomas Saturday.

Yellowjackets tied things through
James Bruce (Gladstone, Mich./Gladstone) in the
25th minute.
With the win, Superior (19-2-1) advances to face the regional-host
Tommies Sunday at 1 p.m. St. Thomas shut out Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, also Saturday. The win for the 'Jackets extends their unbeaten streak to 20 matches. They have 19 victories in that stretch after beginning the season 0-2-0.
UWS fell behind with 10:52 on the clock on a Lionel Vang corner kick that
Hsinku Lay finished into the left side of the net to give the
Auggies a 1-0 advantage.
Bruce then drew the 'Jackets even when Miguel
Ocampo's free kick came to him in the box. Bruce made no mistake, finishing it into the lower left of the net. The goal, which was
initility disallowed by the officials for an offside, was overturned and awarded at the 24:26 mark of the half.
UWS, which beat Augsburg once already this season, 4-1, on Sept. 11 at home,
outshot the Aggies, 13-8, overall and 5-3 on shots on target Saturday. Superior received two saves from goalkeeper Dalton
VonKaenel.
Kaelin made three saves for Augsburg (12-4-4).
Bruce led a group of four
Yellowjackets with multiple shots for the match with three. Fernando
Bicalho, Blake Watson and Blake
Doyea were the other three with more than one shot on the day for UWS.
Up Next: The Yellowjackets (19-2-1) will now face the hosts of the regional, the University of St. Thomas, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. It's the second meeting of the season between the two clubs, as they met in St. Paul to open the season Aug. 31. St. Thomas won that match, 2-0.
