Augsburg 11, UW-Superior 2
MINNEAPOLIS (March 29, 2018) – Superior took on Augsburg for the third time this season at U.S. Bank Stadium early Thursday morning. The Yellowjackets were once again upended by the Auggies in the first game, while the second game halted due to time constraints.
Game 1
The Auggies occupied the first two innings, scoring three runs to open the game. Superior bounced back in the top of the third when Nick McNosky (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) singled to start the inning and moved to third after a balk and wild pitch from the Auggie pitcher. Mike Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) would reach first on an error from the shortstop to score McNosky unearned. The Yellowjackets were down 3-1.
Sam Haines (Paynesville, Minn./Paynesville) pitch hit for Braeden Barr (San Diego, Calif./Grossmount) to begin the third inning, but was caught stealing in a pinch-running situation for the first out. Matthew Boyde (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) used his bat to single to center thereafter, and was able to advance to second on a throwing error and then third on a wild pitch. Bryce Flanagan (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) would ground out to short to bring Boyde home for another unearned run. Superior was down 4-2.
Augsburg put up a big bottom of the fourth with four runs, and then scored again the fifth to make it 11-2. The game would end in the top of the seventh, but not without a few 'Jacket hits, putting up nine to the Auggies 11.
Game 2
Superior would jump out to a 12-6 lead on the Auggies in the second game by putting together an eight-run sixth, but due to time constrains, the game was not completed. For now, the game is a no-contest, but there's hope that the game will be finished at a later date.
Up Next
Superior will have the upcoming weekend off and will look to prepare for their first UMAC contest of 2018 when they play the Crown College Storm in St. Bonifacius, Minn. Saturday April 7.
