St. Scholastica 5, Yellowjackets 0
The Yellowjacket women's soccer team took to the pitch Saturday afternoon, looking for its first win of the season and looking to make a statement with the beginning of conference play. The opponent was a team with which the Yellowjackets have become very familiar over the years, St. Scholastica.
And on this day it was the Saints that emerged victorious, scoring early and putting distance between themselves and the Yellowjackets on the way to a 5-0 win at Saints Field on an overcast Saturday in Duluth.
Rachel Dixon scored her first of two goals in the match just 5:23 in to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Janelle Rouillard added another goal in the 15th minute and the Saints move ahead 2-0, a lead they would take into halftime. Morgan Friday added to the lead in the 70th minute, before Dixon added her second of the match with under ten minutes to play in the match. Then with just over five minutes to play Friday added her second goal of the match, scoring on a penalty kick to make the final score 5-0.
Madison Gutekunst (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and finished the day with 11 saves.
Up Next: The Yellowjackets (0-3-1, 0-1-0 U.M.A.C.) head south to the Twin Cities for a U.M.A.C. match with North Central Tuesday, September 18. Game time from Minneapolis is set for 12:45 p.m.
