Yellowjackets Stymied Again by No. 10 UW-Eau Claire

Eau Claire 5, Yellowjackets 0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.:
After Friday's home loss to UW-Eau Claire, the Yellowjacket women's hockey team was looking to salvage a split in the weekend home-and-home series, and in the process pick up its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season.

The Blugolds had other ideas.

UW-Eau Claire come out and immediately put the pedal to the floor, scoring three times in the opening period on the way to a 5-0 victory over the Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon at the Hobbs Ice Center.

With the win the Blugolds swept the regular season series from the Yellowjackets, taking all three contests.

Eau Claire opened the scoring early when Elizabeth Bauer scored her sixth of the season just 3:06 into the game to make it 1-0. Later in the period Eau Claire scored a pair of goals just 68 seconds apart, with Lexi Wilson scoring her fifth at 11:09, followed by Kelly Knetter's sixth at 12:17 to make it a 3-0 score.

Following the third goal the Yellowjackets made a change in goal, with Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) leaving the game in favor of Maddy Gamst (Moose Lake, Minn./Moose Lake). Johnson made nine saves on 12 shots faced.

Just past the midpoint of the second period Eau Claire increased its lead. Defender Monica Sjodin did the honors, scoring her third of the year to make it 4-0.

Eau Claire would close out the scoring with 0.2 seconds left in the game on a goal by Sami Meister to make the final 5-0.

In her 47:43 of play Gamst finished with 21 saves on 23 shots. At the other end Erin Connolly earned her fourth shutout of the season for UW-Eau Claire, making 26 saves.

Both teams went scoreless on the power play – the Yellowjackets in five chances and the Blugolds in four.
