SUPERIOR, Wis.: Four UW-Superior women's basketball players scored in double figures and the Yellowjackets dominated on the boards to overwhelm St. Scholastica, 84-47, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym Thursday.
UWS shot 8-for-16 from 3-point range and out rebounded the Saints, 51-33, as it moved to 19-2 on the overall and 11-1 in the UMAC. The plus-18 margin on the boards matched Superior's second highest of the season.
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) led all scorers with 17 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes.
Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) recorded 15 points and two steals, while
Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) chipped in 10 points apiece.
Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) gave the 'Jackets their first double-digit lead of the game at 18-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter on a pair of free throws.
St. Scholastica's Alison Huber hit a trey with 12 seconds left in the quarter to cut the UWS lead to 22-14, but the 'Jackets began the second with an 18-1 run to blow the game open. Reinertsen scored 10 points in the stretch, which saw Superior lead, 40-15, with 3:54 remaining before halftime.
UWS led, 46-21, at the half, and didn't let up as the game went on. The 'Jackets led by as many as 33 points with 2:38 remaining in the third quarter when
Morgan Anderson (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) converted a layup off of a Norlin assist for a 63-30 advantage.
A Ruiz triple from
Sydney Franks (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) gave the 'Jackets their largest lead of the game, 78-38, with 3:33 remaining.
St. Scholastica (4-15, 4-8) was led by Kaylee Kennedy and Michaela Walther with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
UWS next travels to face Crown Saturday at 3 p.m.
