ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's soccer team received goals from three different sources and goalkeepers
Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and
Ulrik Lager (Vollen, Norway/Asker VGS) combined to shut out Bethel, 3-0, at Ona Orth Complex Saturday.
In their final tune up before the UMAC tornament, the Yellowjackets looked strong throughout, outshooting the Royals, 13-9 overall and 8-2 in shots on goal.
Senior
Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) opened the scoring in the 14th minute, curling a shot inside the far post from just outside the box for his third goal of the year.
Just after halftime, junior
Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) doubled the lead. His shot from in front of the corner flag bent into the net, past Bethel goalkeeper Colin Hupert. The goal, Doyea's sixth of the season, assisted by
Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park), came in the 46th minute.
Galen Coy (Amery, Wis./Amery) finished off the Royals in the 89th minute when he dribbled down the near sideline past two defenders. His shot from 11 yards out caromed off the far post and in for the final margin.
VonKaenel got the start in the UWS net, playing the first half. Lager played the second, making a pair of saves.
The win moves Superior to 14-3-2 overall as the 'Jackets get set for the UMAC tournament semifinals against the winner of match between Martin Luther and Northland Wednesday. Bethel's season comes to an end at 6-11-1.
