TUSCON, Ariz. – The UW-Superior baseball team dropped a pair of games to Concordia Wisconsin, 8-6 and 6-2, at Kino Sports Complex Wednesday.
Â
The Yellowjackets scored first in both contests, but couldn't hold the lead in either.
Â
Cory Albertson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) paced Superior (2-5) at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a home run, double, two walks and two RBIs.
Â
Concordia (3-5) plated four runs in the second inning of the opener. Tyler Haffey had an RBI single through the left side of the infield, and after Drew Johnson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Joseph Zywiciel singled to center, scoring both Haffey and Christian Gerner to make it 4-1.
Â
Albertson launched his first homer of the season over the left-field fence to pull the 'Jackets to within 4-3 in the bottom of the third. He tied it, 4-4 in the fourth with a double to the gap in left-center field, chasing
Brandon Rolf (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) home.
Â
CUW took the lead for good as Austen Dart singled through the left side in the top of the fifth, scoring Charlie Rodriguez for a 5-4 advantage. The Falcons scored twice more in the sixth to push their cushion to 7-4, but the 'Jackets weren't done.
Â
Braeden Barr (San Diego, Calif./Grossmount) singled home Rolf and
Jordan Berrios (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-6.Â
Â
Concordia manufactured an insurance run with a single, stolen base and sac fly for an 8-6 lead.
Â
Superior was unable to get anything going in its half of the seventh as Lukas Meerdink struck out the side to finish off a three-inning save.
Â
Ryan Green (1-1) went the first four innings on the mound for the Falcons, allowing eight hits, four runs and four walks.
Â
Trevor Roszczewski (Minocqua, Wis./Lakeland Union) started for UWS and lasted 2.1 innings; he gave up four runs and four walks before giving way to the bullpen.
Drew Gran (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run in 2.2 innings.
Â
The 'Jackets loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the first inning of game two, but mustered only two runs. Barr grounded into a double play that scored Berrios, who walked to start the game.
Nick Zezulka (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) followed with a double to left, scoring Rolf.
Â
That was all the 'Jackets got, though, as Concordia scored at least in the first four innings to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Â

Bryce Flanagan (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) pitched three innings for Superior and was saddled with the loss, dropping to 0-1.
