MANKATO, Minn. – The UW-Superior baseball team split a doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran Friday, winning the first game, 10-5, before falling in the second, 7-4.

Six players recorded multiple hits and three scored multiple runs in the opener.
Travis Miller (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and one driven in.
Alex Osness (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West),
Braeden Barr (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont),
Matthew Boyde (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka),
Bryce Flanagan (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) and
Nick Fredrikson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) secured two hits apiece as the Yellowjackets cobbled together 15 hits.

Boone Elkins (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) pitched two hitless innings in middle relief to earn his first win of he season, after Barr started and went 4.2 frames. Barr scattered eight hits and five runs while striking out three.Â

Superior struck for five runs in the top of the first.
Cory Albertson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) hit a sacrifice fly to score Berrios, Boyde singled in Osness, then scored on an error and Fredrikson singled home
Brandon Rolf (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) and Miller.

The Vikings answered with a five of their own the bottom of the third to tie the game. The big blow came on a Nick Caldeen three-run home run with two out.

Berrios broke the tie, making it 6-5 in the top of the fifth on a sac fly to left, scoring Miller.

The 'Jackets tacked on three more in the sixth as Boyde hit an RBI triple, Miller a run-scoring double and Flanagan plated one with a single.

Berrios was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth for the the final run of the game. Â

Ryan Rodriguez (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) finished the game on the mound for the 'Jackets, pitching the eighth and ninth to ensure the win. He also surrendered just one walk and fanned two.

Barr launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning of the second game for a 3-0 UWS. Osness singled to start the inning and Albertson was hit by a pitch to set the stage for Barr's fifth bomb of the season.

Bethany Lutheran came back with six runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Vikings took the lead for good. With three runs already home in the inning, Ben Boran hit a three-run homer for a 6-3 advantage of off
Mitch Coulson (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold) (0-2).

The teams traded runs in the eighth for the final margin.

With the doubleheader split, Superior is 8-14 overall and 2-6 in the UMAC, while Bethany Lutheran is 12-13 overall and 6-2 in the league.

The 'Jackets return to action, traveling to Martin Luther for another UMAC doubleheader at 1:30 p.m.
