IRVING, Texas – Sophomore forward
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) scored a goal and assisted on another as the UW-Superior men's soccer team topped Dallas, 3-1, on Sunday, closing its season-opening trip to Texas with two wins.
The Yellowjackets' first two goals came just 1:32 apart in the opening 10 minutes of the match. They added another for insurance in the 83rd minute – senior
Eric Watson's (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold) second of the season.
The goal-and-assist effort for Perry is the third time he has figured into the scoring of multiple goals in a match in his career. He scored two goals in a match twice last year, at North Central Sept. 18 (also tacking on two assists) and versus St. Mary's Sept. 30.
Senior
Felix Blick (Linkoping, Sweden/Katedralskolan) opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Perry started the play and Blick beat Dallas goalkeeper Caleb Strange. Perry made it 2-0 with an unassisted marker in the 10th minute.
That's how the game stayed until Watson's goal from junior
Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) made it 3-0. Dallas pulled one back in the 90th on a Chima Ogueri tally, assisted by Nicholas Opsahl.
Junior
Ulrik Lager (Vollen, Norway/Asker VGS) got the start in goal, making three saves to earn his first win of the season. Strange took the loss. He made two stops for Dallas (1-1).
Shots for the match were tied, 13-13, but UWS had eight corner kicks to just one for Dallas.
The victory for UWS evens the all-time series with the Crusaders. Dallas beat Superior, 2-1, in double overtime in the only other meeting between the schools on Oct. 28, 2007.
The 'Jackets next travel to face Macalester Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
