ST BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Hannah Goggleye (Calumet, Minn./Greenway) and Gina Baertsch (Farmington, Minn./Farmington Area) tallied eight kills apiece to help the UW-Superior volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Crown in the Yellowjackets' Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener at the Wild Athletic Center Tuesday.

UWS hit .306 as a team, recording 38 kills and just five errors in dispatching the Storm in 64 minutes. With the win, the 'Jackets improve to 7-9 overall while Crown falls to 2-10 and 0-2 in conference play.

Cami Sletta (Willmar, Minn./Willmar Senior) contributed seven kills, four digs and a block, while Brylee Colligan (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) had a match-best-tying 12 digs.

UWS jumped out to an 8-1 advantage in the first set, and opened a 10-point lead at 15-5 on a Baertsch kill from Colligan. Later, Payton Scherber (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) finished a three-point run at the service line with an ace to make it 18-7. UWS took the set, 25-9.

The 'Jackets erased a 6-4 Crown advantage early in the second set when Goggleye and Ertl stuffed an Ashley Earick attack for a 7-6 lead. The teams traded points until Superior took the lead for good on a pair of Crown errors at 15-13 edge. UWS scored four of the next five points, punctuated by a Goggleye kill, to extend the lead to 19-14.

Sletta closed the set with a kill, giving UWS a 25-18 victory and a two-set lead.

Superior rolled to the sweep in the third, allowing just 12 points.

Crown was limited to a -.018 efficiency on the night with 20 errors and just 18 total kills. The Storm was paced by Gracie Zieroth with five kills. Talana Rudzitis had 12 digs and seven assists.
