MORRIS, Minn. – Senior
Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade (Serbia)) scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as the UW-Superior men's basketball team erased a two-point halftime deficit to defeat Minnesota Morris, 64-59, on Saturday.
Â
Freshman
Eli Vogel (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) added 10 of his 12 points in the second stanza, as well, helping the Yellowjackets complete a regular-season sweep of the Cougars. Milenkovic led all players with 13 rebounds, securing his 10th double-double of the season.
Â
UWS (13-7, 10-1 UMAC) overcame a slow start, shooting 33 percent in the first half, to rally for the victory. Superior led by as many as seven at 11-4 in the first half on an
Allen Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) steal and Vogel layup before Minnesota Morris tied the game, 15-15, when Nick Peterson hit a 3-pointer with 8:37 left.
Â
Joe Kramer (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) responded with a trey of his own on the next possession. Morris, though, scored six of the next eight points to take a 21-20 lead with less than five minutes left before halftime.
Â
The 'Jackets led on a pair of free throws from Milenkovic with 1:30 left in the half, but a three-point play from Corbyn Alexander and Dillon Haider free throws gave the Cougars to lead at the break.
Â
Superior built a seven-point advantage at 45-38 with nine minutes gone in the second half when
Mason Ackley (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) stole the ball and went the other way for a layup.
Â
Minnesota Morris (6-14, 2-8) used an 8-0 run to retake the lead briefly at 46-45 on Kenneth Riley free throws. Vogel then hit a 3-pointer and Milenkovic completed a three-point play for 51-46 with 6:18 to play, forcing a Cougar timeout.
Â
Ian Carlin and James Pendleton scored the next five for Morris for a 51-51 tie, and the teams traded buckets to 56-55 UWS. With 1:32 remaining,
Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) hit a layup and was fouled. He drained the ensuing free throw and then another 3-pointer with 25 seconds left for 62-57 as Superior held on for the win.
Â
Reykdal was the third UWS player in double figures with 11 points. Haider scored 17 points and dished out five assists to pace the Cougars.

The 'Jackets host North Central next Saturday at 3 p.m., at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
