EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire limited the UW-Superior women's basketball team to a combined three field goals in the second and third quarters to hand the Yellowjackets a 78-53 loss in their non-conference finale at Zorn Arena Monday.

UWS hung with the Blugolds in the first and fourth quarters, but missed 22-of-25 shots from the field in the middle frames.

Even so, UWS placed three players in double figures led by senior
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) with 18 points. Junior Ellie Leadstom added 12 and senior
Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) scored 11.

The loss drops UWS to 13-7 overall, while UWEC moves to 12-7.

After Reinertsen made the first bucket of the game 30 seconds in, the Blugolds scored the next eight points. Katie Essen extended the lead to 14-6 with a layup four minutes into the game. Carpenter responded with a jumper, and after another Essen layup, Reinertsen completed a three-point play, making it 16-11 with 4:42 left in the period.

Reinertsen drained a 3-pointer on the next possession to get her team within 16-14 with four minutes left. Anna Graaskamp made it 22-16 two minutes lather with an offensive rebound and basket, before Carpenter hit a trey and Leadstrom a layup, cutting it to a one-point game. Eau Claire led, 23-21, after one period.

The Blugolds knocked down 13-of-25 shots in the second and third quarters to build a 58-35 advantage heading to the fourth quarter. From there, the 'Jackets played virtually even in the fourth quarter. Carpenter (seven points), Reinertsen (six) and junior
Kaly Kostrova (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) (six) paced the UWS scoring effort, but it was damage was done.

Hallee Hoeppner led the Blugolds with a game-high 27 points to go with six rebounds and four assists.
