BUFFALO LAKE, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's golf team won its second tournament of the season Saturday, firing a 23-over-par 311, to claim the MLC Invitational at Oakdale Golf Club.
Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) finished as runner-up individually, shooting 1-over 73 on the 6,623-yard course. He finished two strokes behind Brady Raph of Minnesota Morris, who was the only player under par in the event.
The Yellowjackets took the title by two shots over North Central and were four clear of Bethany Lutheran in third place. UWS placed four in the top 10, including two from its second team in the tournament. Along with Stanisich, sophomore
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tied for fifth at 5-over 77. Joining Burger were sophomore
T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and freshman
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), whose 77s represented career-best rounds.
Superior's 'B' team finished fifth overall at 32-over-par 320.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) carded 80, tying for 16th and freshman
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) and sophomore
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) each shot 81 for a 20th-place tie.
Freshman
Trey Shaw (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) posted an 82 for 24th place and classmates
Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) and
Matt Nault (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) carded 84 and 85 for 30th and 31st overall, respectively.
Playing as an individual, freshman
Brady Radloff (Drummond, Wis./Drummond) shot 104 for 54th place in his first collegiate round.
Superior opens defense of its consecutive conference titles in the UMC championship Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
