BECKER, Minn. – Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) fired a 2-over-par 74, tying for third place overall, through the opening round of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship at Pebble Creek Golf Club on Thursday.

The Yellowjackets posted a 19-over 307 as a team, six strokes off the lead held by Bethany Lutheran on the 6,872-yard, par-72 course.

Stanisich's round, which was one shot off of his collegiate best, featured birdies on the par-5 second an 16th holes to go with four bogeys, three of which came on the front nine.

Stanisich is three shots behind co-leaders Nick Hansen of BLC and Ben Long of North Central. The pair were the only golfers to shoot under par on the day.

Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot a season-best 75 for fifth place. Albrecht birdied the par-3 12th hole and scored nothing worse the bogey the rest of the way, including 13 pars.Â

Freshman
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) rounded out the three Superior golfers in the top 10, tying for seventh, with a collegiate-best 77. He posted a birdie on the par-4 first hole and 12 pars. Classmate
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) shot 9-over 81 and is tied for 19th overall. He birded the par-3 sixth hole and notched 12 pars.

Sophomore
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) shot 14-over 86 to tie for 27th. Burger collected six pars on his round.

North Central (23-over 311) is third in the team standings, four strokes behind UWS. Northwestern and Crown finished off the top five with rounds of 318 and 319, respectively.
